If black lines start appearing across the copies when utilising the automatic document feeder but you cannot see any lines when copying from the platen glass, then simply clean the reader glass which is indicated on the image below.

Lift up the automatic document feeder and clean the strip of glass indicated by the arrow with a suitable cloth.
